One Year of Pretrial Fairness: Where Do We Go From Here?

  • grace place 637 South Dearborn Street Chicago, IL, 60605 United States (map)

After nearly a decade of community organizing, Illinois made history in 2023 by implementing the Pretrial Fairness Act and becoming the first state in the country to end money bail. Join the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice at Grace Place (637 S. Dearborn, Chicago) on Saturday April 5th at 1pm for an update on how our pretrial system has changed since the law’s implementation and learn about the work that lies ahead.

The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice will provide updates on how the Pretrial Fairness Act is impacting communities, the roll out of the Pretrial Success Act, the fight to end the Cook County Sheriff’s electronic monitoring program, and the campaign to create a statewide office of Public Defense through the passage of the FAIR Act. We’ll also be joined by Cook County Public Defender Sharone R. Mitchell Jr., State Senator Robert Peters, and Damon Williams and  Daniel Kisslinger of Respair Media for a conversation about the movement for pretrial justice.

This event will be a great opportunity to learn more about the movement for pretrial freedom and to learn how you can get involved with court watching, canvassing and more.
